Myth 1 - Shaving makes your beard longer
This is a scam! Don’t let them make you shave your mane off. A long healthy beard is primarily determined by genes and hormones.
The truth is that a consistent beard routine which includes trimming off dead ends, can promote healthy hair growth.
Myth 2 - Beard oil makes your beard grow faster
If you buy beard oil expecting to see quick growth, you will be disappointed. Beard oil is a tool to assist you in your hair growth journey. It is not a ‘magical’ hair growth oil - do not buy into the quick fixes. You will need to be patient but it will pay off.
Myth 3 - Grey hair means you’re old
Greys in your beard tend to grow faster than the ones on your head. This can be linked to factors such as genetics - rather than age.
Pro tip: Salt & Pepper gives you an air of wisdom and authority which comes off as attractive, rather than old!
Myth 4 - Beards make you hotter
In terms of attractiveness, well, yes, they really do.
When it comes to the sun though, a beard will not add to the heat - in fact, it acts as a protection from UV rays and can also regulate temperature - you know that cool feeling you get when you stand under a tree in the heat, that's what your chin and cheeks feel under your beard.
Myth 5 - Using more products = more results
A little goes a long way when it comes to products. Overusing your beard oil, balm or shampoo will lead to clogged pores which will block healthy growth and cause beardruff and itching.
Use a few drops of your products for the best results.
Myth 6 - Beards hide a weak jawline
Some men grow their beards out to hide their jawline. This does not work. Whether or not you have a strong jawline, an unkempt beard will make it look weak and messy. The only way to contour your face using your beard is to give it that TLC that it needs - shaping, product and consistency.
Pro tip: Grow your beard because you like facial hair.
Myth 7 - Beards are dirty and full of bacteria
Dirt and bacteria build up mainly from food and dust particles that you encounter throughout your day. A beard routine including a wash (with your beard shampoo) at least once a week, your beard oil, and your beard balm will keep your beard fresh and clean.
Myth 8 - Beards mean you don’t need professional care
Getting your beard looking good will require all the professional and personal love it can get. Think - two is better than one here. Add that little extra cash into your budget for a biweekly or at the very least a monthly visit to your favourite barber.
