Beards mean different things to different people. For some, it may be a fashion statement, for others, it may be a rite of passage but for all bearded men, there are benefits to growing out your beard.
Here are some of them;
- It acts as a natural sunblock
Research has shown that having a beard can protect a man from UV rays as it acts as a natural barrier. This means that the chances of getting skin cancer or skin damage are less than those of a clean-shaven man.
- It gives you a glow!
Growing a beard can help in preventing loss of moisture.
Sebum is the natural oil that keeps your skin moisturized and healthy. When a person shaves regularly, they shave off the layer of sebum creating dryness which can cause beardruff (beard dandruff) and itchiness.
So in essence, a beard can help you maintain that healthy glow.
- It is low maintenance
Contrary to popular belief, growing a beard can actually require less maintenance than the clean-shaven look.
Shaving daily will require more time, effort, and products – you would need a razor, shaving cream, and aftershave lotion while a bearded man (depending on his beard style) can’t go wrong with his trusty beard oil by his side.
- It keeps you warm
A beard can keep your face warm during the cold season. This is the complete opposite of point 1 but it magnifies how cool and versatile beards can be.
This is a good thing for those of us in areas where it’s sunny one minute and pouring rain in the next.
- It keeps allergies and infections at bay
When Covid came, there was a rumour about beards being a risk factor in contracting the disease.
This rumour was quickly debunked when it was discovered that beards are actually more helpful than harmful to the respiratory system.
A beard can assist in trapping germs and dirt which prevents a bearded man from breathing these into his nose and lungs.
Beards are lifesavers! Put that on a T-shirt.
Mandevu’s got your gifts!
